The Big Read is a project of the library system and an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services, in cooperation with Arts Midwest.

The hometown public libraries of the Pioneer Library System, including Purcell Public Library, have been sponsoring a series of book discussions and thematic programs related to the novel Bless Me, Ultima.

A unique feature of project is the Bless Me, Ultima Ultimate, Altima Give Away sponsored by the Bob Moore Auto Group and the Pioneer Library System as an incentive for participation in The Big Read activities. Event attendees are eligible to register to win a 2005 Nissan Altima.

The car will be on display at the Expo Center. The winner will be announced at a Cinco de Mayo Celebration at Bob Moore Nissan in Norman, I-35 and Tecumseh Road at 7 p.m., May 5. The public is invited to attend the event which will also feature food, children’s crafts, and music related to the Hispanic themes of the novel.

Visit the Purcell Public Library, 919 N. Ninth, to obtain a copy of the novel, Bless Me Ultima. Free reader’s guides produced by the National Endowment for the Arts are also available at the library.
